Welcome

Welcome to the North Idaho Mineral Club web site. We support rockhounds in Coeur d'Alene, Sandpoint, Post Falls, Rathdrum, Priest Lake, Hayden and all regions of the North Idaho Panhandle with field trips, workshops and our annual Gem, Mineral, Rock and Jewelry Show.

The general objectives of our club are to promote interest and education in the various earth sciences; especially geology, mineralogy, paleontology, lapidary and many related subjects. Most of all we have a good time doing this with friends who share interests and contribute to the benefit of all.

The North Idaho Mineral Club is affiliated with the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies, the Northwest Federation of Mineralogical Societies and the Washington Mineral Council.

Our mailing address is in Hayden, ID and we hold our monthly meetings in Coeur d'Alene, ID.

Not A Potluck Meeting for December

We had originally planned on a potluck dinner instead of a regular meeting for this month. We found that the location where we would do that requires insurance for the dinner, so we are not doing that.

Instead of a potluck, we will have a regular dinner at the Top of China buffet in Coeur d'Alene. This restaurant is on Appleway, next to Lowes. Sorry, but you will have to pay for dinner.

Date: December 15, 2011
Time: 5:00 pm
Place: Top of China Buffet, W. Appleway, Coeur d'Alene, ID

North Idaho Mineral Club donates $2,000 to NIC

The North Idaho Mineral Club recently established a scholarship through the North Idaho College Foundation in support of students enrolled in geology or interested in geology fields at NIC. The club donated $2,000 to be split between two students.

Sean Buck of Sandpoint and Scott Williams of Rathdrum are the first two recipients.

“I was very excited to receive this scholarship and I really appreciate the club’s investment in my education,” Williams said.

The North Idaho Mineral Club was established in 1949 to promote interest and education in the various earth sciences as well as the lapidary and related arts.

Pictured are NIC Foundation Executive Director Rayelle Anderson, NIC Vice President for Instruction Jay Lee, NIC student Scott Williams and Mineral Club members Tammy Madland, Hiram Madland, Bev Bockman, Melissa Price, President Warren Price and Vice President Bill Johnson. Web site wins award

For the first time, the North Idaho Mineral Club submitted this web site for the Northwest Federation of Mineralogical Societies web site contest. We came in third and received the following award

We did pretty well for our fist time and we hope to do even better next time.

No meeting for August

There will be no meeting this month. We will have another normal meeting in October.

2011 Mineral Show a success

The North Idaho Mineral Club's annual Gem, Mineral, Rock and Jewelry Show was held the first weekend in June and was an unqualified success. Approximately 850 people attended the show over its two-day run. The show had vendor booths, gem and mineral displays, child-oriented areas, a silent auction and lapidary demonstrations.

Pictures of the show can be seen in our Photo Gallery.

Mineral Show Information

We have updated our Mineral Show page to display information about this year's show, which will be on June 4th and 5th, 2011. All show information is included on the page.

Meeting Location permanently changed

We have changed our meeting location permanently. We are now meeting at the Lake City Senior Center, 1916 North Lakewood Drive, Coeur d'Alene, ID. Meeting date and time have not been changed.

Please go to the Meetings web page for a map of the new location.

February 2011 (and more) Club Meeting

They are still cleaning up from the burst pipe at our normal meeting place in Post Falls, so we will be holding the February meeting at the Lake City Senior Center, which is at 1916 North Lakewood Drive, Coeur d'Alene, ID.

If we like this meeting location, we may switch to it permanently. At any rate, the Post Falls Senior Center will be out of commission until at least May.
